KURENT

KURENT

Function:  The devious son of the god Veles, the god of wine and intoxication, but also of inspiration, wisdom and healing. He takes care of fruit trees, vines, hops and other plants that bring intoxication, but also healing. He chose bees from the animals and thus became the deity of beekeepers.

Image: Appears as a tall and elegant figure with short black hair, wearing a green-brown hooded cloak. In his hands is a staff made of vines. He is sometimes depicted with rolls, as he is the son of Veles.

Symbols: Bees, vine stick, hemp vine, hops.

Sacrifices: Bread, cakes, fruit, wine and honey, and mead. He also likes flowers of all kinds.

Holidays: Kurenta's holidays are associated with vintage and harvest. However, his main holiday is the new moon day before the Kupala holiday

Note: It is the god Kurent who saved man during the flood of the world. But it was he who caused man to be no longer strong and long-lived, but on the other hand, perhaps as a compensation, he gave man a great gift, thanks to which man is the wisest being on earth.
