VODAN

Function: The son of Veles, also called the King of Seas and Waters, is the god of all waterways, rivers, lakes and seas. He is also the deity to whom trade is dedicated.

Image: He appears as a bald, bearded old man, often with a crown on his head and a trident in his hands. He likes to transform into animals, especially aquatic ones.

Symbols: Black horse and catfish, trident. His number is seven.

Sacrifices: Bread, egg, butter and wine, horse's head, rooster, goose, duck, cakes, berries and fruits, gold, silver and money, weapons.

Holidays: The biggest festival of water deities is associated with the festival of Živa in the first days of May, and the second festival of water beings is in mid-July.

Note: He took over the rule of the sea from his father Veles. His wife is the goddess Diva. Water rules especially in the sea; he left the rule over rivers and lakes to his lords called watermen. In the spring, people brought offerings to springs, to the banks of rivers, lakes and even seas. Often the sacrifice was connected with the preparation and cleaning of wells and springs.
