MAGURA

MAGURA

Function:  Daughter of the god Simarigl, she is the goddess of mountains, fields, meadows, pastures, and is often called the Mother of Mountains herself. She is the queen of forest fairies and forest spirits. Just as her husband is in charge of all the animals in the mountain or in the meadow, so Magura rules over all the trees, vegetation, their spirits or demons.

Image: She appears as a beautiful fairy, but she is dressed in much more ornate clothes and sometimes instead of a wreath of flowers, she wears a tiara woven into her brown hair, symbolizing her power over the mountains, forests, meadows and all the creatures there.

Symbols: Showing a bushy tree as well as an oak leaf or twig. Among the animals, a lynx or a wild cat is dedicated to her.

Sacrifices: Bread, cheese, game or parts of hunted game. As the queen of trees, she is always pleased to decorate them with various ribbons, bells and bells.

Holidays: The consecration of her holidays takes place at the same time as the time of St. George. She is also called upon to start hunting or before harvesting forest crops, or before beginning forest work.

Note: Reports of the worship of mountain and forest beings or deities by the Slavs are very old, although they mostly speak of calling upon trees, rocks and mountains. In fact, it was not a cult of trees and rocks, but a cult of the beings that resided in them, and Magura was considered their queen.
